It is always a great joy to see God’s redemptive plan layed out in the Old Testament and today was no different. Although I have red that passage many times, I never noticed a little portion of the phrase pointing out to the great sacrifice of our Lord and how His body was to be when hanging on the cross.
The below Scripture is from the ordinances of the Passover that God gave Moses after He had brought the Israelites out of the land of Egypt;
“It is to be eaten in a single house; you are not to bring forth any of the flesh outside of the house, nor are you to break any bone of it.” Exodus 12:46
Now look at another passage of the Old Testament prophesying the coming of the Messiah;
“He keeps all his bones, Not one of them is broken.” Psalm 34-20
Now look at this passage from the New Testament;
31Then the Jews, because it was the day of preparation, so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
32So the soldiers came, and broke the legs of the first man and of the other who was crucified with Him;
33but coming to Jesus, when they saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs.
34But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.
35And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you also may believe.
36For these things came to pass to fulfill the Scripture,(H) “NOT A BONE OF HIM SHALL BE BROKEN.”
37And again another Scripture says, “THEY SHALL LOOK ON HIM WHOM THEY PIERCED.
What an Amazing, Loving, Merciful and Powerful God we serve!
24 Now to Him who is able to keep you (the believe) from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy,
25 to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.
